Vestergaard Frandsen, a rapidly growing company founded in Denmark in 1957,
specialises in complex emergency response and disease control textiles, with a focus on Malaria,
waterborne diseases and neglected diseases.
In the sphere of waterborne disease control, Vestergaard Frandsen has spent over a decade researching
water filtration in partnership with the Carter Center, specifically on the eradication of the Guinea worm.
LifeStraw®, its breakthrough product in the water business, has the potential to reduce overall child mortality
and save millions of people affected by fatal diseases such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery and diarrhoea .
LifeStraw® is a portable water purification tool that transforms contaminated water into safe drinking water,
ultimately thwarting the threat of common waterborne diseases. LifeStraw® has a lifetime of 700 litres
or up to one year (calculated on a daily water consumption of two litres per day). During this time,
LifeStraw® effectively removes 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, 98.7% of viruses as well as particles down to 15 microns.
LifeStraw® has been developed to provide an accessible, effective solution to the urgent need for safe water intervention.
